Susan Benner

Combining my extensive experience in graphic design, illustration, patterns and nature, my technique when working with watercolor results in pieces that are unique — rich in color, detail and style.

Flowers call to me and are my primary subjects when painting. I find that each flower is a world unto itself in terms of color, pattern and design ... I find it intriguing to study and paint them up close. My process begins with a watercolor wash before building a top layer of very tight line-work to capture vibrant colors, movement, interest and patterns. Color and detail are important to me and I hope that viewers of my work find the result to be uplifting and interesting.

When the opportunity arises, I enjoy creating custom pieces for clients, working closely with them to create sketches and color studies that reflect precisely what they are looking for. It gives me such joy when someone tells me that they love looking at a painting or drawing that I created specifically for them. I have also been commissioned to create detailed pencil drawings of clients' pets — and because of my love for animals, this too has been incredibly rewarding and enjoyable to me.

I graduated from William Paterson University and continued my art studies with an independent illustrator for national magazines. I have exhibited in one-woman shows at the Ridgewood Library; The Stable Gallery in Ridgewood, NJ; The Gallery at M Shop in Nyack, NY; and was also a featured contributor at a Whole Foods Art Exhibit in Ridgewood.

My memberships include the North Westchester Artist Guild and the Ridgewood Art Institute.
